Desktop DNA Printer V.2

DESIGN - BIOlogy :: The Desktop Genetics design competition is in its final round, with an added requirement - an integrated PCR system. The previous design submitted was a redesigned oligonucleotide synthesizer. Version 2 now includes a PCR well at the base of the design to lower test vials into after synthesis is completed above.

The three modes - loading/unloading, printing, and PCR are depicted below. After the break, see a cutaway of the inner workings and a description of the integrated PCR function.

The competition has been a lot of fun, and a great (not to mention accelerated) learning experience. I learned even more this final round and finally got around to reading through OpenPCR's documentation.
